the help of volunteers.
Last summer I had the privilege of coordinating the
Volunteer Long Trail Patrol (VLTP) and bringing together volunteers from all
over the world who donated a week to a month of time to work on the trail with
us. VLTP members hiked to and from the
work site, spent the days working together on a project and then camped in the
woods nearby at night.

day’s sweat and dirt.
The VLTP allows people to temporarily escape modern
amenities, live with the land and establish, or re-establish, an appreciation
for the outdoors.
So, here’s to all of the volunteers who have worked on the Long
Trail System and made the woods home. Taking
care of the trails today will ensure that our kids will have access to the
mountains and a place to escape from the modern amenities of their
