On Saturday, May 9, 2015, letter carriers across the U.S. will be collecting non-perishable food items to distribute to local food shelves. Most letter carriers and post offices in the Green Mountain United Way five counties of Caledonia, Essex, Orange, Orleans and Washington will be participating.
Last year a phenomenal 32,000 pounds of food were donated by the people of these five counties with over 74 million pounds collected nationwide. Twenty of our local food shelves received this food helping them feed many families that are food insecure.
Do your part to HELP STAMP OUT HUNGER. Simply place your non-perishable food items in a bag at your mailbox on the morning of May 9th and your letter carrier will be happy to pick it up for distribution. If you do not have a letter carrier, just take your items to your post office and ask that they distribute them to the food pantry in your town.
Please do not include any outdated items as government regulations do not allow food shelves to accept them. They will simply be thrown away.
Thank you for your participation and for helping your neighbors.
