Green Mountain United Way Promotes National Volunteer Week

April 12th through the 18th has been designated as National Volunteer Week, a time when volunteers everywhere should be celebrated for the time, work and energy that they give to hundreds of nonprofit groups.

Locally, Green Mountain United Way (GMUW) is extremely fortunate to receive the services of dozens of volunteers who are part of the reason why organizations like GMUW continue to be viable and effective in the community. It is nearly impossible to measure the worth of a volunteer because they do so much from serving on Boards and Committees, helping with clerical work, assisting with fundraising events, and generally relieving the GMUW staff to concentrate on making a real impact that creates stronger communities.

If you are a volunteer, no matter for what organization, we thank you. Please know that you are valued and appreciated for all that you do.

If you have not yet volunteered, but would like to, make your commitment today. Visit the GMUW Volunteer Network at and find just the volunteer opportunity for you in our service area of Washington, Orange, Caledonia, Essex and Orleans Counties. This Network is categorized by county and then by town making it easier for you to search.

Watch for news about the upcoming GMUW Day of Caring, a day when groups of volunteers come together and work on one project for a day. Several local businesses give their employees a day off with pay to participate in these projects so that they can contribute to community service.

For more information about GMUW, please visit or call them at their new Barre office at 1 Conti Circle, at 622-8056.
